About

After stints in construction, restaurants, and other fields, I started writing and editing professionally in the late 1990s.

Over the next couple of decades, I
served as Coordinating Editor for movies coverage at MTV News and as Managing Editor for the late, great e-zine, Feed; worked at TIME.com for a number of years and at Cond
é Nast for a minute; and helped launch the National Magazine Award-winning LIFE.com.

Along the way I got to work with and learn from the best in the business
. I'm grateful for that.

Other work-related stuff:

— Contributor: New York Times, Washington Post, Salon, Boston Globe, Smithsonian, Daily Beast, Los Angeles Review of Books, Red Canary, Columbia Journalism Review, CNN.com, many others.

— Wrote the Foreword to Joseph Szabo's photography book, Hometown (2020); told the life story of a Long Island businessman, inventor, and problem-solver named Jim Miller in Nothing Bad Ever Happens (2017); edited the anthologies Covering the Bases and Gluttony, both from Chronicle Books.

— Nowadays I'm a reference librarian at the Yonkers Public Library. I live with my family in New York City, and still occasionally tackle freelance editorial work, online and off.
